As I reflect on my journey to China, I am filled with gratitude and admiration for the incredible volunteers who welcomed me at the airport and transformed my experience at the Central University of Finance and Economics (CUFE). Their warmth, patience, and dedication left an indelible mark on my life, making my transition to a new culture seamless.

The moment I stepped off the plane, I was enveloped in uncertainty. Leaving behind the familiarity of Malawi, I embarked on a new chapter in China, courtesy of the MOFCOM scholarship. But little did I know that the real treasures awaited me at the airport – the volunteers.

With a paper marked "Maulidi Chinyama," they smiled and greeted me with a gentle voice, exuding respect. Their soft-spoken nature and gentle gestures dispelled my apprehensions, replacing them with hope and excitement. As we navigated the Beijing traffic, they briefed us on essential aspects of life in China, from WeChat to registration, and campus life.

Their patience was inspiring, a testament to the Chinese culture's emphasis on harmony and understanding. As African students, we were encouraged to share our expectations, fostering an atmosphere of mutual learning. The volunteers' selflessness and devotion created a sense of belonging, making us feel at home.

Upon arrival at Shahel campus, I was struck by the modern infrastructure and beautiful surroundings. The volunteers ensured our comfort, guiding us through SIM card registration, residence permit application, and campus orientation. Their meticulous attention to detail alleviated our concerns, allowing us to focus on our academic journey.

These remarkable individuals demonstrated the true spirit of volunteerism, going above and beyond to ensure our settlement. Their dedication extended beyond mere tasks; they embodied the values of CUFE – excellence, inclusivity, and community.

As I reflect on my time at CUFE, I realize that the volunteers' impact transcended my initial days. They set the tone for my academic and personal growth, instilling confidence and curiosity. Their influence has stayed with me, shaping my approach to challenges and relationships.

To my wonderful guides, I extend my deepest gratitude. Your selflessness, kindness, and expertise have made an lasting impact on my life. You are the unsung heroes of CUFE, creating a warm and welcoming environment for international students.
